Neutral studio backdrops

Seamless walls, soft key light and nothing to distract from your face. The safest choice for a formal interview.

Professional rooms

Real rooms that read as competent: a home office, a boardroom and a library.

Warm and academic interview sets

Books, brick and lamplight. For interviews where you want to look thoughtful rather than corporate.

Soft, plant and curtain sets

Daylight through fabric and greenery. Warmer than a studio, calmer than a living room.

Which interview background fits the call?

Pick by the impression you want to make in the first ten seconds.

How to set up an interview background

Three checks before the call.

1 · GO PLAIN BEHIND YOUR HEAD

Calm wall, busy edges

The area directly behind your head should hold no detail. Books, plants and panelling belong in the corners.

2 · MATCH THE ROOM LIGHT

Warm face, warm set

A warm desk lamp in the room pairs better with warm wood panels. Cool office lighting pairs better with the grey, white and blue studios.

3 · TEST AT TILE SIZE

Check the small preview

Join a test call and look at your tile at the size the interviewer will see. If the background detail disappears into noise, choose a plainer wall.

File specs before you upload

Every download is ready for Zoom and Teams.

Resolution

1920×1080, a 16:9 frame. Zoom asks for at least 1280×720, so these files stay sharp on full-screen calls.

Format and weight

Plain JPG, typically a few hundred kilobytes each. Uploads finish quickly and nothing is re-compressed before the call.

Teams takes the same file

Microsoft Teams accepts the same JPG under Video effects → Backgrounds → Add new. No second download is needed.

No green screen required

Zoom and Teams can apply a virtual background without a green screen on most modern computers and phones. Even front lighting improves the edge.

How to add an interview background in Zoom

Desktop first; mobile uses the same file.

STEP 1

Download the JPG

Use the download button under any set and save the original file, not the thumbnail.

STEP 2

Open Background & effects

In Zoom, open Settings → Background & effects. On mobile, open the meeting menu → Background & effects.

STEP 3

Add the image

Click the plus icon, choose Add image and select the saved JPG. Leave “I have a green screen” off unless you actually use one.

Need a different crop? Use the Zoom background size fixer, the background maker or the compressor if Zoom rejects a file for size.

Questions

Are these interview backgrounds free?

Yes. All 14 JPGs are free to download at 1920×1080, with no signup, trial or watermark. Use them in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or a recorded interview.

What size are the files?

Every download is a 1920×1080 JPG in a 16:9 frame. Zoom asks for at least 1280×720, so these files stay sharp on full-screen calls.

Which background is best for a job interview?

Start with Neutral Gray Studio, Corporate Blue Studio, Home Office Interview Corner. They keep the wall plain and the interest at the edges so your face stays the focus.

Will a studio backdrop look fake?

A seamless wall is the least fake-looking option, because it replaces something you might actually sit in front of. It also survives video compression better than a detailed room.

Do I need a green screen?

No. Zoom and Teams apply a virtual background without a green screen on most modern computers and phones. Even front lighting gives a cleaner edge.

Can I use the same file in Microsoft Teams?

Yes. Teams accepts the same JPG under Video effects → Backgrounds → Add new. There is no separate Teams download.

Can I use these in commercial interviews or webinars?

Yes. They are free for personal and commercial use, including interviews, webinars, classes and recorded sessions. You cannot resell or redistribute the files.
